Pediatric CranioSacral Therapy
Through pediatric craniosacral therapy (CST) we work to remove physical and emotional trauma from babies and young children, as well as to promote broader health and wellbeing.
What is paediatric craniosacral therapy?
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a specialised field of alternative medicine, born from osteopathy, that supports health. Its’ name stems from the craniosacral system – the membranes and fluid that surround the brain and spinal cord – Central Nervous System. The process allows for the healing of emotional as well as physical pain, trauma and anxiousness.
How it works
CST supports regulation of the nervous system and allows conditions resulting from stress and trauma to resolve. It enhances baby’s natural healing processes to let go of the impact of negative mental, physical or emotional experiences incurred during or after birth.
Benefits
A craniosacral treatment can address newborn concerns by removing compression patterns set during birth. A treatment for baby can address feeding issues, colic and reflus, aid restlessness, encourage correction of mishappen head shape and torticollis, and support overall balance and calm.
Children of all ages benefit from craniosacral therapy. It supports their growth, calms their nervous system, relieves symptoms of asthma, digest headaches and calms their nervous system.
Teens too, benefit from a CST treatment. Issues around school phobia, bullying, confidence and self-esteem are some of the concerns we deal with regularly. Post covid, many children are experiencing new levels of anxiety and phobias. CranioSacral therapy can calm and restore balance to their overstimulated nervous system by releasing tension and rebalancing the body systems.

What happens during craniosacral therapy?
The treatment takes place in a warm, caring environment where you and your child will feel supported.
Firstly, I will invite you to discuss any issues or concerns that you would like help to resolve.
Once ready, your baby/child will lie on a table, similar to a massage table. They can play with a toy if it helps them relax during their treatment. If they are more comfortable sitting on a parent’s knee or have a parent sit next to them that is possible too.
Using gentle hands-on-techniques, areas of compression and misalignment can be eased as your baby’s body softens and relaxes. With compression and tension released, baby’s body is feed up to function naturally and wellbeing restored.
Please note my experience has shown that a home visit works well for new mothers and babies – if you would prefer a home visit that can be arranged.
How often should I book craniosacral therapy?
Many children and teens we work with have regular treatments as a protective measure to encourage a healthy immune system and to clear toxins from their body. For newborn babies 1 – 3 treatments should be sufficient.
What conditions does CST help with?
- Feeding issues
- Colic and reflux
- Mishappen head
- Restlessness
- Torticollis
- Stress
- Trauma
- Anxiety
- Digestive issues
How quickly can I expect results?
The time it takes varies for each child and the condition being treated. If you choose a highly experienced therapist, it’s common to get noticeable results from a single session. On average three treatments are required. Following a difficult delivery, and for premature babies, more treatments may be needed.
It’s best to book a free consultation to discuss your child’s reasons for CST, so that the therapist can give you a clearer idea of a typical treatment programme for your child’s particular condition.

kmescher2024-05-06 I've (so far) had one session with Mary, to help process shock, trauma and grief associated with medical circumstances. I will absolutely return for continued work. I knew from the first phone call that there was something specific about Mary that I responded to - I couldn't place it exactly - maybe, her warmth, gentleness, or ease of being. At the initial consultation, we spoke at length about what I wanted to explore in my session and hoped to release. Mary offered soft, guiding questions throughout the session to deepen my process. Although it was not my reason for seeking her, I had some lingering pain from a recent medical procedure (about 6 weeks prior) that Mary named (before I mentioned it at all) and tuned into. I cannot explain what mechanism has lessened it, but I know that it's a shadow of its former self and I have taken no medication or action to otherwise affect it. Mary was exceptionally thorough, her presence was soft and deeply calming, and I had no sense of urgency or pressure to be or do anything differently. What Mary offers is a profound opportunity to encourage her clients to be tuned with their bodies, and to act as companion with them on that journey. While I thought I felt quite normal after my session, I slept deeply and restfully overnight (for longer than is usual) and also napped throughout the following day. I do not know what happens in the energy body as a result of Mary's work, but if it appeals to you, Mary has a unique ability to do significant, restorative work on this level and I'm very grateful to experience it. sandra mcgovern2022-06-19 I had craniosacral therapy for my headaches this gave me great pain relief.highly recommended Mary. Katie Lynch2022-06-13 I began craniosacral therapy with Mary after finding I needed more than just talk therapy to manage the anxiety that developed after a family bereavement. CST helped to release the emotions, thoughts, and tensions that I had deeply suppressed, of which I could not have described in words. Being a beavered adolescent, especially during a pandemic, added confusion, indecisiveness, and fear to a time of constant decision making for my future. Talk therapy in combination with CST sessions enabled me to identify and overcome the deep-rooted feelings of instability and uncertainty that I was suffering from. I am extremely grateful for Mary’s support and guidance. Katie (3rd level student) Jane Lynch2022-06-13 I reached out to Mary for Craniosacral Therapy following the untimely death of my beloved husband. Alongside her life coaching abilities, she helped me cast aside limiting beliefs and empowered me to move forward with a positive and optimistic approach to the future. Encouraging me to take on new challenges in both my professional and personal lives. 5 stars doesn’t begin to describe her abilities and I will always be in debt to her. Jane Lynch (Chartered Physiotherapist) Tracy Odonnell2022-06-12 Mary is an excellent life coach, she helped me to find ways to regain control over my work life balance and helped me to action making health and well being a priority in my life again.
